Stormwater Enterprise Internship - (PT Internship)
About the Job: The Stormwater Enterprise within the City of Colorado Springs is seeking two highly motivated Student Interns to support the City’s Municipal Separate Storm Sewer System (MS4) Permit. This internship offers a valuable opportunity to gain hands-on experience in stormwater management, environmental compliance, and engineering design. Interns will work closely with professional staff to support a variety of stormwater programs and activities aimed at protecting local water resources.

Work Schedule: Monday – Friday, 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. (flexible scheduling available)
Work Location: City of Colorado Springs – Stormwater Enterprise, 30 South Nevada Avenue, Colorado Springs, CO
This is a seasonal (at-will) position with benefits limited to those required by applicable state and federal laws, which include Worker's Compensation, Medicare, Unemployment Insurance, and PERA (Public Employees' Retirement Association).
Approximate dates of employment will be May - September 2025. Scheduled hours will vary based on department needs. Total hours worked will not exceed 1,500 annually.
- Under the guidance of professional staff, interns will gain practical experience in stormwater management, data collection, and engineering design, including:
- Wet and Dry Monitoring Program – Conduct sampling at various outfalls, record data, and support other related activities.
- Permanent Structural BMP Program – Perform inspections on pond structures, assess water quality, and measure flow rates.
- Illicit Discharge Program – Conduct field investigations of spills and support compliance efforts.
- Education and Outreach Program – Distribute outreach materials, engage with the public at large-scale events, and present stormwater materials to school-aged children in a classroom setting.
- Engineering Design and Review Support – Assist with developing designs using AutoCAD/Civil 3D and create hydrologic and hydraulic models using software such as EPA SWMM, HEC-RAS, and StormCAD.
- Stormwater Plan Review – Assist with reviewing drainage plans and reports for development and capital improvement projects.

- Currently enrolled as a junior, senior, or graduate student in Civil Engineering, Environmental Science, Hydrology, or a related field.
