DEFINITION:
The City of Colton Community Services Department is looking for enthusiastic, team players that will be responsible for bringing Play to the community through after school programs, classes, special events, and other community activities. Individuals shall have a cheerful disposition, excellent customer service skills, able to work in a diverse community atmosphere, and work in indoor and outdoor environments.
DESCRIPTION:
Under general supervision of the Recreation Coordinators, the Recreation Specialist plans, organizes, and generally supervises lower level staff in the application of a variety of recreation activities at a community center, park, playground, or recreational area. Exercises direct oversight of lower level staff and volunteers.

Assist in the planning, coordination, oversight, and evaluation of City Sponsored programs and activities.
Prepares and distributes marketing materials.
Perform light park and/or facility maintenance and custodial duties.
Maintains accurate records related to programs, which include attendance, revenue and expenditures, equipment, and supplies.
Provide exceptional customer service in-person, via telephone, and written communication.
Process payments and registrations according to the City cash-handling policy.
Inspect facility for safety and propose/enact solutions when possible.
Use good judgment in dealing with program, staffing, safety, and customer service issues.
Maintain prompt and regular attendance.
Perform related duties as required.
QUALIFICATIONS:
TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:
Any combination of training and experience, which would provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities, is qualifying. A typical way to obtain this knowledge and abilities would be:
Education: Must have a High School Diploma or General Education Diploma (GED). and
Experience: A minimum of two (2) years of experience in customer service or recreation programs, of which one (1) year serving as a lead staff member.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Must be 18 years of age or older
CPR/AED and First Aid certification is required within three (3) months of the time of appointment.
Possession of a valid "C" California Driver's license and good driving record.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
Knowledge of:
Principles and methods used in organizing, conducting, and supervising recreation programs; basic customer service principles and techniques; basic conflict resolution principles and techniques; leadership and consensus-building techniques.
Ability to:
Establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors, subordinates and the public; deal constructively with conflict and develop effective resolutions; follow written and oral instructions; wear appropriate attire or uniform in a presentable manner; be a source of accurate information; prioritize and handle multiple program tasks; think and act quickly in emergencies; accurately use point-of-sale system, which includes counting money, processing transactions, and policy enforcement; conduct research and prepare reports; compile and analyze statistical data; communicate clearly, concisely, and in an effective manner both orally and in writing; facilitate indoor and outdoor activities for participants of all ages and abilities; positively represent the City of Colton in demeanor and work ethic; operate a motor vehicle on City streets.
