The purpose of this job is to promote and support Columbia as a tourism destination to drive overnight stays and economic impact from leisure travelers, specifically related to the sports market. Strives to generate lodging tax revenue and additional economic activity from recruitment and functioning of events.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities - The intent of this job description is to provide a representative summary of the major duties and responsibilities performed by employees in this job. Employees may be requested to perform job-related tasks other than those specifically presented in this description
- Works to attract and assist organizations in recruiting amateur, professional, and collegiate sporting events to the city.
- Serves as liaison to Columbia Sports Commission, providing support through creating reports, drafting meeting minutes, and participating in monthly meetings.
- Provides service to clients dependent upon expected impact and needs of each event. Delivers physical items and assists in the execution of events.
- Develops and maintains relationships with local hotels, colleges, city departments, clubs, and organizations.
- Maintains accurate and up-to-date information in department’s customer relationship management software specific to sports market.
- Participates in developing, planning, and operating internally owned revenue-generating events.
- Regular attendance is a necessary and essential function.
- Performs other duties as assigned.

- No supervisory authority. Work may require providing guidance and training to others.

Education and Experience - An equivalent combination of education, training and experience will be considered
Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s Degree in Sports Management, Hospitality Management, or related field
- 1 to 3 years’ experience in sports management, hospitality management, or related field
Licenses or Certifications
- Valid driver’s license.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities which may be representative, but not all-inclusive of those commonly associated with this position

- Sporting event venues and hotel infrastructure.
- Common business software applications such as Microsoft Office.
