Job Description Summary
Lifeguard will work under the general supervision of the Facility Managerial staff. Lifeguard will : provide a safe environment for the facility patrons through polite enforcement of safety rules; provide correct, courteous answers to telephone and verbal inquires; administer first aid and water rescues when needed; assist with teaching classes in a manner prescribed by the Columbia Parks and Recreation Department (CPRD) guidelines; bend / stoop / twist / reach overhead to demonstrate swim strokes in and out of the water; lift preschool age children in and out of the water; accurately maintain all class records as prescribed by CPRD guidelines; provide a healthy and sanitary facility for patrons through continual cleaning; assist with department wide events; and perform other duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications Applicants must : be at least 15 years of age; have a current nationally recognized lifeguard certification (StarGurard Elite, American Red Cross or Ellis & Associates) or certified by June 9, 2025 if working Summer 2025; be able to clearly see across the entire pool to recognize swimmers in distress; have proof of 20 / 20 corrective vision; be able to hear whistle codes and patrons across pool area; have physical endurance to respond to emergencies; be able to lift up to 50lbs; participate in weekly in-service trainings; be willing to work evenings, weekends, and holidays; attend mandatory pre-season orientation and staff meetings; purchase approved uniform and follow dress code policy; and must have excellent customer service skills.
