JOB TITLE: Public Works Laborer
REPORTS TO: Water Supervisor, Street Supervisor or Wastewater Treatment Facility Director
FLSA STATUS: Non-Exempt
SUPERVISES: None
GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
The primary function of this position is to perform multiple duties needed to assist the Cities water, sewer and street systems.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Assists the Water Supervisor, Street Supervisor or Wastewater Treatment Facility Director with grounds and building maintenance, hydrant painting, meter reading and repair.
- Assists water personnel with minor repairs.
- Assists with the seasonal flushing of mains and assists the Wastewater Treatment Plant with grounds and facility maintenance as needed.
- Assists the Street department with minor repairs and maintenance.
- Assists with the Wastewater collection system maintenance and repair.
- Assists with the sewer collection system cleaning and maintenance, manhole cleaning and service repairs.
All work activities shall be conducted in compliance with the Safety and Accident Prevention Plan.

EDUCATION AND/OR WORK EXPERIENCE:
High school diploma or General Education Degree (GED).
KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:
· Basic knowledge of water and sewer systems.
· Safe and professional operation of lawn mowers, pickups and tractors.
· The safe and effective use of a variety of hand and gas-powered tools and hoists.
REQUIRED CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENSES:
· Valid Washington State Motor Vehicle Operator’s License and a driving record free from serious or frequent traffic violations.
· Must be 18 years of age or older.
· Current First-Aid/CPR certification
· May be required to have a series of vaccinations as protection against typhoid, tetanus, diphtheria and hepatitis A & B.
· May be required to obtain a current Washington State Flaggers certification.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
The work environment consists of indoor and outdoor work. The majority of this position will be outdoors. Examples of work performed outdoors consist of Water system maintenance, flushing water mains, hydrant painting, lawn mowing, weed eating and meter repair.
While performing the duties of the job, the employee is regularly required to walk, use hands and fingers to handle or feel objects, tools or controls, climb balance, twist or lift. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
The noise level in the work environment is moderate with occasional exposure to loud noises.

Pay: $3,273.12 - $3,405.35 per month
