What are the responsibilities and job description for the BUS OPERATOR II position at City of Commerce?
Under general supervision, provides journey level bus driver duties in support of transit operations including operating transit buses of various sizes on assigned routes, for scheduled pickup assignments, and in accordance with specific manifest instructions; provides safe, secure, comfortable services to users of the City of Commerce's public transit program.

High school diploma or equivalent GED.
AND
Completion of 2080 hours as a Bus Operator I for the City of Commerce or two (2) years of commercial transportation experience including at least one (1) year within the past three years.
DMV PRINTOUT: Applicants must submit his/her CURRENT DMV (K-4) Driving Record. Required Licenses or Certifications:
Must possess a valid California Class B driver’s license with passenger endorsement and safe driving record at the time of appointment and throughout employment.
Special Requirements:
Must be at least 21 years of age.
Must pass a background check.
First Aid and CPR certifications/training will be provided by the City.

- Operates a variety of City transit vehicles according to established schedule, assigned routes and special excursion plans; provides assistance to passengers as needed, and ensure passenger comfort and safety; ensures that clients receive the highest level of customer service possible.
- Provides safe, secure, comfortable services to users of the City public transit program including demonstrating courtesy to passengers, sensitivity to passengers with disabilities, providing announcements, responding to question, and providing information, and assisting passengers when needed.
- Assists riders to safely board and disembark the vehicle; exits the bus and assists passengers with special needs as required; provides passengers with verbal and written information regarding transit services, destinations, special announcements, and schedules.
- Performs daily vehicle inspection and cleaning prior to beginning service including inspecting or testing the following: brakes, windshield wipers, engine, tires and tire pressure, and overall functioning of the vehicle to ensure safe operation of the bus in accordance with Department of Motor Vehicle regulations.
- Ensures that all required written reports are completed and submitted on a daily basis including, inspection reports, incident reports, accident reports, and operational problem reports; reports any operational problems to the supervisor in a timely manner, and completes other reports as required.
- Operates a variety of transportation vehicles in accordance with all traffic laws, regulations and procedures; identifies and reports vehicle problems requiring additional maintenance and repair.
- Cooperates with the investigation of any customer complaints; completes all required training.
- Recognizes, avoids, and reports unsafe acts, conditions, accidents and injuries.
- Operates wheelchair lift and bike rack equipment.
- Performs related duties as assigned.
