Job Summary
Employees in this class are under general supervision. Work is performed marketing and promoting materials, programs, events, classes, and activities for all divisions of the department, including design and production of publications, advertising and promotional plans; planning special functions and activities; maintaining content of the department website and webpage design; managing social media pages and content; designing and distributing publications including graphics, photographs, written story content for flyers, brochures, newsletters, and Leisure Life magazine. Executes a variety of clerical duties, meeting and serving the public, processes payments for classes and programs.
Examples of work performed: understand the concept of branding, in creating promotional materials, webpage design, desktop publishing/graphic design for visual displays and social media; coordinates and manages all social media pages and content; takes photographs and creates videos and slide presentations for promotional and marketing purposes; greets and provides information to the public; answers telephones, routing calls appropriately; assists in processing deposit refunds for customers; receives and processes mail; processes customer applications, registrations, and reservations for all department activities; accurately accounts for all receipts and funds; assist with special events as assigned; performs related work as required.
Required Knowledge and Abilities
Knowledge of Microsoft Office software suite
Knowledge of online communications including social media platforms
Knowledge of public relations and customer service skills, with emphasis on pleasant and courteous telephone and interpersonal demeanor
Knowledge of journalism ethics and standards
Knowledge of modern office practices, procedures, and equipment
Knowledge of modern office practices, procedures and equipment including applicable computer operations
Knowledge of basic cash receipting and balancing
Ability to participate in department functions and events
Ability to create social media content, maintain and keep current social media pages
Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing
Ability to keep records and create reports
Ability to understand and follow oral and/or written instructions
Ability to establish and maintain an effective working relationship with co-workers and the public
Essential Functions
Duties performed primarily in an office environment, involving sedentary work. Must be able to use a variety of office equipment including computers, telephones, copy and/or fax machines, etc. Must be familiar with and capable of photographing a variety of subjects, actions, and locations. Occasionally requires working in an outside environment. Occasionally requires lifting/maneuvering objects weighing up to fifteen pounds.
Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent required. The preferred applicant for this position will have a college degree in Communications, Marketing, Public Relations or a related field; experience in marketing, journalism, or publishing; and experience in customer service work involving considerable contact with the public.
