As a Fleet Service Technician Ill / Emergency Vehicle Technician (EVT), you will be responsible for the following:
Under general supervision, the purpose of the position is to perform skilled work involving the maintenance and repair of gasoline or diesel driven engines and related auto equipment, Fire Rescue apparatus & equipment, machinery, and tools. Employee specializes in Fire Emergency Vehicle Technician duties and holds EVT Certifications. Employee functions at journeyman level to perform routine work with considerable independence, and more difficult work under direct guidance and supervision of the supervisor.
Associate degree or vocational/technical courses. A minimum of three (3) to four (4) years of responsible hands-on experience in automotive and heavy equipment/machinery maintenance and repair required. Experience with Fire vehicles, equipment, and apparatus; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
Must possess and maintain a Class "B" with air brakes Florida Commercial Driver’s License. Must possess and maintain A/C Recycling Certification. Must possess and maintain master Medium/Heavy Duty Truck Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certification or Master Automotive (ASE) certification, and minimum one Emergency Vehicle Technician (EVT) certification.Work environment involves everyday risks or discomforts which require normal safety precautions typical of such places as office or meeting and training rooms, e.g., use of safe work place practices with office equipment, avoidance of trips and falls, and observance of fire and building safety regulations, and traffic signals when driving.

- Schedules repairs, preventative maintenance, and servicing of automotive & fire rescue apparatus equipment.
- Performs primary mechanic work for Fire department pumpers, rescue vehicles, equipment, and apparatus. Performs overhaul and repair work on automobiles, light and heavy trucks, mechanical equipment and other gasoline and diesel driven engines.
- Inspects, adjusts, and replaces necessary parts.
- Tunes and adjusts engines.
- Repairs and welds automotive bodies.
- Removes, repairs, and replaces component parts or assembles automotive systems.
- Services and repairs brake systems; tests and repairs electrical equipment, generators, distributors, magnetos, and starters.
- Repairs and replaces valves, pistons, main bearings, cooling, fuel and exhaust systems, transmissions, front and rear axles, and hydraulic controls.
- Operates various standard and heavy equipment and tools utilized in auto-repair.
- Attends In-house training and continuing education classes.
- Participates in repairing, troubleshooting, and diagnosing fire apparatus & equipment, including hydraulic & air brake systems, P/M, electrical systems, hydraulics, fuel, cooling, CAFS, A/C, pumps, and drivelines.
- Maintains various records, reports, and manuals, for example, Preventive Maintenance schedules, parts inventory, daily checkout reports, pump & aerial testing.
- Maintains active communication with various departments for the dissemination of information regarding equipment repairs.
- Maintains effective and professional relationships with work colleagues and various department personnel.
- Maintains cleanliness of garage facilities and equipment.
- Research and assist with parts identification, orders and update supervisor's status of Fire Fleet repairs.
- Responsible for ordering and maintaining on hand stock parts and fire equipment.
