This Summer Internship is planned to run from June 16th to August 1st with an Orientation that will be scheduled the week prior to the Internship start date.
This position will give the intern great exposure to our City operations and provides the ability for the intern to coach/lead a crew of 4-5 special needs students from the Arc Broward program. The intern will be working closely with the Human Resources department to lead, coach, supervise, and ensure the safety of special needs students during daily activities. Activities may include but are not limited to:
- Mail distribution at City Hall
- Variety of beautification projects throughout the City
- Work at Sawgrass Nature Center to clean up areas
- Plant flowers at Mullins Park Peace Garden
- Pick up trash around Mullins Park
- Help the Special Events Department for the July 4th event
- Assist with general office work
- Assist the community garden with field work
- Install mulch and small plant material in cul-de-sacs and facilities
- Assist Central Stores with inventories
- Assist Communication & Marketing with a variety of manual projects and set-ups
- Pick up trash, downed fronds and other vegetative debris along right-of-way
- Assist the litter control crews
Career preparatory activities allow students to explore specific careers more closely through job shadowing, work-based learning, and site-based projects that apply concepts to actual careers. The curriculum is supplemented with field trips, guest speakers, computer education, and hands-on learning opportunities to prepare youth for the job market. Job development activities assist students in finding community-based employment. Students participate in a 7-week paid summer internship to develop work skills and gain hands on work experience.

• Ability to work a minimum of 20 hours per week and attend mandatory onboarding session.
• May require attendance at after-hours business meetings or City events.
• Experience as a camp counselor, sports coach, youth leader or with special needs students is preferred.
• Must have a valid driver's license as this individual will be shuttling workers to various worksites
