Job Summary: Performs a range of permitting related and general office tasks in support of the Permits and Planning and Zoning Departments surrounding the platting, construction permitting, and the interpretation of the City codes; answer telephones and respond to requests for information and questions from citizens and contractors; responsible for performing technical work in the review and processing of permit applications and providing customer service assistance to the public.
Physical Requirements: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, walk and stand; talk and hear; use hands to handle, feel or operate objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms; and perform repetitive movements of hands or wrists. Specific vision abilities required for this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus.
Other Aspects of the Job: Requires a high school diploma or GED and one year of clerical experience. The employee should be knowledgeable in pertinent Federal, State and local laws, codes and regulations; modern office procedures, methods and computer equipment; and basic mathematical calculations. Requires excellent written and oral communication skills and the ability to deal with the public in a pleasant and professional manner and handle complaints courteously and tactfully. Must be able to prioritize and organize workload to meet deadlines and ability to handle confidential information and sensitive issues in a responsible manner. Ability to read and interpret codes, plans, specifications and blueprints. Must have and maintain a valid Texas Driver’s License. Must have and maintain a satisfactory driving record. Punctuality and regular attendance are required. Must satisfactorily complete a one-year probation period.
