JOB SUMMARY:
Provides working leadership to Street Maintenance & Support Crews. Works closely with Street Maintenance Supervisor & Utilities Manager to coordinate/implement repairs to utility street cuts, repair street failures, install and repair street signs, layout and place pavement markers, in a timely professional manner.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Supervises and leads streets employees in Public Works activities as assigned.
- Drives trucks to haul supplies and equipment.
- Operates all street department equipment as necessary.
- Assists in performance of maintenance and preventive maintenance on equipment including monitoring service intervals.
- Prepare and replace street signs as needed.
- Maintains and repairs traffic signal lights.
- Make repairs to utility street cuts & street failures.
- Remove trees from the right-of-way or other City property.
- Perform other duties as requested by the Street Maintenance Supervisor or Public Works Director.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Ability to bend, lift and climb while making street repairs and repairing/replacing street signs.
- Exposure to extreme temperatures, chemicals, dust and fumes.
- Able to operate & climb onto all light and heavy equipment, such as skid steer loaders, front-end loaders, street cut saws, compactors, backhoes and tractors.
- Exposure to exhaust fumes from vehicles and equipment.
- Ability to physically crawl inside and through pipe structures for the purpose of cleaning and removing obstruction.
- Will often work in ditches/trenches and areas filled with water and mud.
- Must be able to work in inclement weather, including occasional need to work after hours and weekends/holidays and may work in heavy traffic areas.
- Must be able to carry heavy loads of various materials and supplies up to 100 lbs.
- Must be able to handle shovels, hoes and rakes with both hands and be of sufficient strength to force shovels into the ground by applying force by means of foot pressure.
- Clean tools, equipment and vehicles by various means, including high pressure washers.
OTHER ASPECTS OF THE JOB:
Must have a High School Diploma or GED. Knowledge of materials, maintenance practices, and equipment used in the construction and maintenance of streets and City properties. May be called in after hours during hazardous weather conditions. Must be knowledgeable of and follow safe work practices. Ability to read, write, communicate effectively and deal with the public in a courteous manner. Must have and maintain a valid Texas Commercial Driver’s License Class A (CDL).
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
The City of Corsicana has established the goal of 100% drug and alcohol-free workplace. Applicants will be required to undergo drug and alcohol testing prior to employment and will be subject to further drug and alcohol testing throughout their period of employment. Must have and maintain a satisfactory driving record. Punctuality and regular attendance are required. Must satisfactorily complete a one-year probationary period.
