What are the responsibilities and job description for the Building Inspector- Seasonal position at City of Cottage Grove?
Under the direction of the Chief Building Official, this position will assist Building Division staff with compliance and enforcement of the State Building Code, and Local Codes and Standards. To assist with residential plan reviews, building inspections, and customer service. Learn how to establish and maintain positive and effective working relationships with Building Division customers and staff.
Work hours: 8:00 to 4:30 Monday through Friday

- Conduct minor residential plan reviews.
- Conduct residential building, plumbing, and mechanical inspections.
- Prepare and maintain necessary records and reports.
- Provide customer assistance.
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Possession of a valid driver's license.
- Current enrollment in a building inspection technology program, or in possession of Building Inspection certification credentials, and/or two years construction related experience.
- Ability to read and interpret building plans and specifications.
- Basic knowledge of the MN State Building, Plumbing, Energy and Mechanical Codes.
- Ability to communicate effectively with staff, homeowners, occupants, contractors, and the general public.
- Working knowledge and experience with personal computer software including Microsoft Office and EnerGov permit software.
- Ability to physically conduct below and above ground inspections, climb ladders and scaffolding and be comfortable on construction sites.
Salary : $25 - $35
