ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
A Water Safety Instructor (WSI)/Swim lesson coach is responsible for teaching water safety and swim lessons to individuals of all ages and skill levels. This role involves creating a safe and engaging learning environment, instructing participants in water safety techniques, and prompting water safety awareness. The instructor/coach will also evaluate participants’ progress, provide constructive and positive feedback, and ensure the safety of everyone involved in swimming activities. Create and implement age-appropriate lesson plans to teach swimming skills. Keep accurate records of participants’ progress and attendance. Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Must be at least 15 years of age. Must be a certified Red Cross Water Safety Instructor, Swim American Coach or able to obtain by June 1, 2020. May be required to successfully pass a post-job offer drug screening and background check.
SKILLS:
Strong interpersonal skills, knowledge of facility policies and procedures. Ability to work with a wide range of abilities and ages.
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
None Required
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Ability to properly demonstrate swimming skills to the Red Cross Learn-to-Swim Level 4 standard. May be required to lift 50 lbs.
MENTAL DEMANDS:
Ability to maintain composure and act responsibly in stressful situations. Must maintain a positive, encouraging attitude.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Ability to work outdoors with prolonged exposure to sun, heat, and pool water. Occasional inclement weather such as cold, and rain may be encountered.

Pool staff, parks and recreation staff, other city employees and the general public.
