What are the responsibilities and job description for the Recreation Program Leader for Day Camps and Special Events position at City of Crystal?
Make a positive impact in the community and be a part of our Recreation Team that puts the Fun in Summer. The Recreation Program Leaders will plan and lead games, nature activities, and arts & craft activities for youth aged 4-12 in the Summer Adventure and Summer Blast Day camps. You will also assist with special events like Water Day, Crystal Frolics, and more!
HOURS OF WORK: Daytime (Monday-Thursday 9:00 am-4:00 pm), flexible evening and weekend hours based on applicants’ availability and job assignments. 28-40 hours a week.- Ability to interact with youth and their guardians.
- Create and implement daily lesson plans, request supplies and evaluate daily activities to ensure participants are having a positive experience.
- Keep daily attendance and other reports as required by the supervisor.
- Enforce the program safety rules and maintain a safe atmosphere.
- Responds and resolves participant needs in a professional manner.
- Be familiar with emergency and accident procedures.
- Assures the facility or program area is clean and set-up properly prior to guest or participant arrival; and corrects problems if necessary.
- Performs clean-up and simple facility maintenance as needed. Uses appropriate cleaning equipment and chemicals as necessary.
- Responsible for program equipment and supplies, tables and chairs, athletic equipment, etc. Monitors equipment to make sure they are in working order.
- Attends staff meetings and coordinates work schedule with other staff.
- Ensures a safe and healthy work environment and conducts business in a safe manner.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
- Must be 16 years of age or older.
- Excellent communication and public relations skills.
- Ability to plan, organize and execute recreational activities for youth ages 4-12.
- Ability to work cooperatively with other employees.
- Ability to work in an outdoor setting with exposure to a variety of weather conditions.
- Fluent in English; both spoken and written
DESIRABLE TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE
- 6 months previous recreation program experience.
- 6 months previous customer service experience.
- Past experience working with youth.
- CPR and first aid certification.
- Valid Driver's License.
- Fluency in Spanish, Hmong, French, Somali or Oromo language(s)

Must be able to assertively control conversations in order to quickly and accurately gather pertinent information and be able to communicate this information professionally and precisely to the proper recipient. Be able to read and understand correspondence, memoranda and directives.
Decision Making: Must have knowledge of park and recreation programs, operations, and procedures. Must act in a decisive manner, using good judgment. Must be able to assess problems and situations, able to anticipate needs and evaluate alternatives.

Technical Knowledge: Must be able to handle working with the cell phone, and locking and unlocking assigned facility as necessary. Must acquire working knowledge of program and facility rental procedures.
