The Caseworker I - Police Department provides professional level casework services to individuals requiring assistance of social service agencies to ensure that the medical, social, and economic needs of individuals are effectively addressed and met.

Overview
The Caseworker I - Police Department provides professional level casework services to individuals requiring assistance of social service agencies to ensure that the medical, social, and economic needs of individuals are effectively addressed and met.
Essential Functions
1 Assists clients by interviewing clients and significant others and gathering specific information to determine preliminary eligibility for programs offered within the City; make appropriate referral services to ensure that identified socioeconomic needs have been addressed and met.
2 Accepts referrals from agencies and interviews individuals referred to determine the nature and degree of problem, eligibility for program, and level of assistance needed; makes referrals and assists with program recommendations.
3 Counsels individuals, families, and groups by developing a client treatment plan to ensure that individuals receive appropriate services and interventions; may provide services to seniors, youth, and other parts of the community.
4 Maintains contact with various social services agencies and maintains awareness of the scope of services available to ensure adequate medical, financial, housing, and social services are provided.
5 Makes home visits to assess clients needs, conduct follow-up interviews, and maintain contact with clients.
6 Makes presentations and issues health promotion materials to educate and motivate individuals to move toward healthier lifestyles; assists with applications and submission of other documents for programs and services.
7 Obtains and maintains necessary information on individuals receiving assistance to determine continued eligibility for assistance.
8 Maintains contact with individuals and interacts with health care staff and other referred agencies to ensure proper assistance is received and provide further assistance as needed.
9 Performs any and all other work as needed or assigned.
Knowledge and Skills
1 Knowledge of principles and practices involved in casework methods.
2 Knowledge of social service resources in the community.
3 Knowledge of social and health issues, and the ability to apply knowledge to the solution of diverse problems.
4 Ability to effectively interact with clients from diverse socioeconomic backgrounds.
5 Ability to maintain confidentiality of information and client data.
6 Ability to make verbal presentations to various groups.
7 Ability to work closely with various agencies including law enforcement, schools, employers, health, welfare and recreation programs.
8 Communicating effectively verbally and in writing.
9 Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships.
Experience
1 year of experience working in social work, or casework.
Licenses and Certifications
None
Education
Bachelor's Degree in Sociology or Social Work
Minimum Qualifications
EDUCATION:
  • High school diploma/GED.
EXPERIENCE:
  • Three (3) years of social work/casework experience, which includes two (2) years providing resources to victims of a crime or as a victim advocate.
EQUIVALENCIES:
  • Associate degree in a social science field plus one (1) year providing resources to victims of a crime or as a victim advocate will meet the education and experience requirements.
  • Bachelor's degree or higher in a specified field will meet the education and experience requirements.
LICENSE:
  • Valid driver’s license with good driving record
OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
  • Polygraph and Background check
  • Must pass an intensive background investigation and drug test.
  • No FELONY or Class A MISDEMEANOR convictions.
  • No Class B MISDEMEANOR convictions within the last ten (10) years.
  • No family violence convictions.
  • Cannot currently be on deferred adjudication for any FELONY, Class A, or Class B MISDEMEANOR.
  • Subject to twenty-four/seven (24/7) call-out.
PREFERENCES:
  • An associate or bachelor's degree preferred.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills
  • MS Office or similar software skills
  • Ability to establish relationships with neighborhood groups
  • Ability to conduct community presentations
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish)
  • Public speaking experience

Salary Range

$47,325.55 - $54,393.85

The salary listed on this job posting is the starting salary range; amount offered will depend upon qualifications.
