What are the responsibilities and job description for the Litigation Paralegal (Torts Section) position at City of Dallas?
The Dallas City Attorney’s Office is seeking an energetic, self-motivated paralegal for the Litigation Division. Substantial experience in pre-trial and trial phases of civil litigation as a paralegal in Texas federal and state courts, excellent personal and telephone communication skills, organizational ability, and proficiency in Word, Excel, Adobe, and e-discovery platforms are required. Candidates must have a paralegal certificate.
The successful candidate will assist assistant city attorneys with the defense of personal injury claims brought under the Texas Tort Claims Act, with a heavy focus on cases involving motor vehicle collisions and premises liability. The successful candidate will also assist in the defense of cases involving federal constitutional law claims. The paralegal will be filing documents in state and federal courts; drafting and responding to discovery requests; responding to subpoena requests and other third party discovery requests; researching legal issues; preparing correspondence, legal memoranda, pleadings, and documents pertaining to cases; collecting documentary evidence and other information; assisting with hearing, deposition, mediation, and trial preparation; screening and processing of correspondence; working on briefs, including checking citations; assisting with review and production of documents; and other duties as assigned; all under attorney supervision. The position involves substantial contact with members of the public, City officials, and staff.
Salary is commensurate with experience. The City's comprehensive benefits package comes with the position.
