Job Description
The Signs and Markings Technician performs various skilled, difficult, or complex maintenance tasks in field and ground maintenance for the transportation department. Facilitates asphalt or paving repair and marking, traffic signs and marking, or other related maintenance work.
Essential Functions
1 Directs and participates in the installation and maintenance of traffic signs and street markings.
2 Participates with and supports installing and maintaining traffic signs and marking pavement; travels to various location and ensures crew is prepared for work.
3 Identifies and determines required tools and materials and ensures availability to complete necessary traffic sign or pavement maintenance; drives trucks and paint machines to job site, and trains lower level crew members.
4 Performs as lead worker to a small crew by assigning tasks, setting pace of work, and training in the visual inspection of street maintenance, traffic sign installation and care, and general traffic maintenance tasks.
5 Prepares equipment and materials for sign installs, maintenance, and repair; mixes concrete, measures and cuts metal poles, installs anchors, hand digs holes, makes up the signs on the poles, trims trees, and removes old poles and signs.
6 Facilitates the accurate, safe, and efficient installation of signage for all traffic and street requirments; checks and evaluates painting for street marking to ensure work meets transportation standards.
Knowledge And Skills
1 High School Diploma, GED
2 3 years experience in general construction, sign shop, street maintenance or other related work.
3 State of Texas Class C Driver's License.
4 Knowledge of hand and power tools.
5 Knowledge of the Manual of Uniform Traffic Control Devices.
6 Ability to speak English and Spanish.
7 Knowledge of traffic patterns and sign layout practices.
8 Knowledge of standard colors, configuration, and placement of lane markings and traffic signs.
9 Knowledge of surface preparations and adaptability of various surface materials.
10 Ability to train and instruct others in proper and safe work procedures.
11 Ability to read maps, plans and blueprints.
12 Ability to perform simple math calculations.
13 Ability to plan sequence of operations.
14 Ability to stand, bend, and lift items weighing up to 40 pounds.
15 Communicating effectively verbally and in writing
16 Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
$43,752.79 - $47,158.79
