The Utility Customer Account Specialist I provides and performs entry level tasks in response to customer inquiries (payment/billing), lobby/credit services/billing/lobby/special collections services transactions, complaints, or requests. Maintains and manages customer accounts and performs related work as required under general supervision.

The Utility Customer Account Specialist I provides and performs entry level tasks in response to customer inquiries (payment/billing), lobby/credit services/billing/lobby/special collections services transactions, complaints, or requests. Maintains and manages customer accounts and performs related work as required under general supervision.
Essential Functions
1 Identifies and responds to customer inquiries regarding utility services, account activity, and billing/payment/utility process questions.
2 Processes routine entry level changes and corrections in SAP billing system to support accurate and efficient billing/payment processing/credit services/lobby processes.
3 Performs various collection and customer service activities to include contacting customers by phones, making payment arrangements, taking payments, correcting, and resubmitting invoices to internal and external collection department.
4 Utilizes accounting debit and credit principles to evaluate account payables and receivables to explain and evaluate account history.
5 Performs entry level clerical, analysis and data entry related to payments received and customer accounts; opens, closes, and transfers accounts and performs adjustments to accounts.
6 Researches, investigates, and monitors utility account transactions to respond to customer inquiries concerning billings, payments, fees, adjustments, disconnects, rereads, service orders, customer service processes and consumption issues.
7 Exercises diplomacy and professionalism and maintains strict confidentiality in accordance with Red Flag rules.
8 Prepares clear and concise spreadsheets and correspondence at a basic level.
9 Verification of cashier’s drawer and cash drop for end of day closing.
10 Creation of form letters, monitoring/response to shared customer inquiry emails, answer incoming calls and pulling voicemails from shared customer phone line.
11 Assist lobby walk-in customers by providing customer service functions.
12 Performs any and all other work as needed or assigned.

EDUCATION:.
- High School Diploma or GED
- Three (3) years of customer service, clerical, billing, accounts payable or financial record keeping experience.
- Associate degree in any field plus one (1) year of the stated experience will meet the education and experience requirements.
- Bachelor's degree or higher in any field will meet the education and experience requirements.
