Danbury Parks and Recreation is seeking an enthusiastic, organized, and responsible Site Director to oversee the daily operations of our youth summer camps. The Site Director will lead a team of counselors and staff to ensure a safe, fun, and enriching experience for campers aged 6-12. This role requires strong leadership, excellent communication skills, and a passion for working with children in an outdoor recreational setting.
Key ResponsibilitiesProgram Oversight: Plan, coordinate, and supervise all camp activities, ensuring they align with the mission and goals of Danbury Parks and Recreation.
Staff Management: Hire, train, and manage camp counselors and support staff, fostering a positive and collaborative team environment.
Safety & Compliance: Enforce safety protocols, maintain a secure environment, and ensure compliance with all local, state, and departmental regulations.
Camper Experience: Oversee camper registration, address parent inquiries, and resolve conflicts or behavioral issues to ensure a positive experience for all participants.
Scheduling: Develop and manage daily schedules for activities, meals, and staff shifts, adapting as needed to weather or unforeseen circumstances.
Resource Management: Monitor and maintain camp supplies, equipment, and facilities, reporting any needs or damages to the Parks and Recreation Department.
Communication: Serve as the primary point of contact between camp staff, parents, and the Parks and Recreation administration, providing regular updates and reports.
Emergency Response: Act as the lead in emergency situations, implementing procedures and communicating effectively with staff, campers, and authorities as needed.
Education & Experience: Bachelor’s degree in recreation, education, or a related field preferred; or equivalent experience in camp management, youth programming, or a supervisory role. Minimum of 2 years working with children in a recreational or educational setting required.
Leadership Skills: Proven ability to lead and motivate a team, with strong decision-making and problem-solving skills.
Certifications: CPR and First Aid certification required (or ability to obtain prior to start date). Lifeguard certification or experience with water safety is a plus.
Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to engage with children, parents, and staff professionally.
Physical Requirements: Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions, lift up to 25 lbs., and actively participate in camp activities.
Background Check and Drug Screen: Must pass a drug screen, criminal background check and provide references.
