Under general supervision, responsible for overseeing and coordinating the daily operations of the City’s public transportation system; works closely with Dispatchers, Transit Operators and Transit management to ensure smooth service delivery and to resolve issues that arise within day-to-day transit operations.

Examples Of Duties
- Coordinates the day-to-day operations of the transit system, helping to ensure timely departures, arrivals and safe operations.
- Assists with transportation schedules and routes to maximize efficiency and minimize delays; ensures accurate timetable communication to passengers.
- Serves as the primary point of contact between Transit Operators and Dispatchers; communicates real-time updates, changes or delays; seeks input from Transit management when required.
- Trains, assigns and evaluates the performance of assigned staff.
- Resolves operational issues, such as delays, traffic problems, accidents or vehicle breakdowns; implements contingency plans when necessary to minimize service disruptions.
- Assists with collision investigations and other operational incidents.
- Directs computer dispatch center activities; sends out route transfers and monitors bus locations using GPS to control routes and identify missed passengers, when necessary.
- Assists with tracking and reporting on transit performance, including on-time service, customer complaints and operational efficiency.
- Helps to ensure all operations adhere to safety regulations, transit policies and legal requirements.
- Ensures accurate and timely submission of payroll data for the Transit division.
- Contributes to the efficiency and effectiveness of Transit division’s service by offering suggestions and participating as an active member of the Transit division.
- Performs other related duties as required.
Qualifications
Must possess a high school diploma or GED equivalent, plus two (2) years of transit operations experience; or an equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the knowledge, skills and abilities necessary to perform the required work in this position.
Must possess a valid Driver's License and obtain a Class B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with air brake and passenger endorsements within three (3) months of hire and maintain throughout duration of employment.
Must pass a physical examination and background check as prescribed by the city. All Transit CDL personnel are subject to the Federal Transit Authority Random Drug & Alcohol Program.
Must reside in Iowa or Illinois within two (2) years of hire and maintain residency throughout the duration of employment.
