What are the responsibilities and job description for the 2025 Summer/Seasonal Pool Manager position at City of De Pere?

The Pool Manager is responsible for the safe operation of an assigned swimming pool, including supervising pool personnel, overseeing conduct of pool events, ensuring collection and security of revenue, attendant record keeping, and daily operation of pool equipment.  They are responsible for the communication between the pool and the Recreation Supervisor.  This position works under the general supervision of the Recreation Supervisor, or other supervisor, as assigned. 

Work Schedule: Typical schedule varies. Pools open the 2nd Saturday in June and close the 2nd to last Sunday in August.  Additional hours will be required for training and facility prep before the pools open for the season. Average of 40 /week, includes days, evenings, weekends and holidays.

Work Location: Legion or VFW Pool
Under general supervision:

SAFETY
  • Oversees the safe and proper operation of assigned pool facility; ensures that all facility rules and safety guidelines are followed; reports breaches of rules, as necessary
  • Expels swimmers, if necessary, for willful disobedience of pool rules
  • Responds to all emergency situations while on duty; administers first aid and makes rescues, as necessary
  • Aware of, abides to and enforces the Swimming Pool Personnel Policies
  • Notifies City staff of weather-related closings 

MAINTENANCE
  • Monitors and maintains pool filtration system.   Oversees the maintenance of the swimming pool. 
  • Monitors pool water chemistry through testing of water samples.  Adjusts chemistry as needed to maintain standards.  Exposure to chemicals, which may be caustic or toxic.
  • Supervises and assists with cleaning of facility and surrounding area; ensures it is done to a level to achieve sanitary and pleasing conditions at the pool facility
  • Assists with pre-season and post-season preparations and clean-up

ADMINISTRATIVE
  • Prepares and distributes facility information to the public in order to promote programs, classes or other activities
  • Supervises all daily activities and special events as assigned
  • Monitors aquatic equipment, supply and material quantities and levels
  • Prepare requests for supplies and equipment including, but not limited to chemicals, concession supplies and first aid supplies
  • Handles patron complaints and concerns effectively and with consideration, using good public relations skills
  • Responsible for overseeing concession financial reporting, sales inventory and orders.  Prepares cash report and deposit revenue daily
  • Registers patrons for pool memberships, swim lessons and other aquatic programs
  • Completes, maintains, and submits accurate operational and financial records and reports for the assigned pool facility, including but not limited to, attendance records, water chemistry, cleaning, inventory, timesheets, deposits and those required for the Health Department

STAFF
  • Assigns, schedules, and supervises the work of pool personnel; monitors and evaluates the performance of subordinates
  • Trains and instructs pool staff as outlined by management
  • Supervise lessons to ensure correct teaching methods are being applied
  • Ensure staff is uniformed with correct apparel and carrying proper safety equipment
  • Conducts periodic staff meetings
  • Performs other related duties as assigned or required

Knowledge of:

  • Effective supervision of assigned personnel, including scheduling and distributing work
  • Lifeguarding, first aid, CPR techniques and use of an AED
  • Instruction of swim skills
  • Prevention of accidents related to and around a pool
  • City's policies, procedures and emergency action plans
  • Pool facility regulation
  • Basic pool chemical testing techniques and maintenance operations
 
 
Ability to:
  • Work in a team-based environment and achieve common goals
  • Supervise employees and coordinate the work of staff
  • Conduct and analyze tests relating to pool water conditions
  • Maintain accurate records and submit necessary reports
  • Perform lifeguarding, first aid, artificial respiration and CPR techniques and use of an AED
  • Exercise tact, maintain pose and professionalism and use good judgment in resolving disputes and differences arising with the public and employees
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work, including the general public, employees, and community leaders
  • Communicate clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing
  • Handle emergency situations effectively and efficiently
  • Work outdoors in summer weather conditions
  • Plan, organize, implement, and oversee a recreational aquatics program
  • Lift and/or move 50 pounds
  • Work as necessary, days, nights, weekends and holidays during the pool operating season, pre-season start up and post-season clean up
  • Enforce safety and health regulations
  • Understand and follow written and oral instructions and procedures
  • Use computers and related program and registration software
  • At least 17 years of age.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Valid and current American Red Cross First Aid, CPR for the Professional Rescuer, AED and Lifeguarding certifications or equivalent training. 
  • Supervisory background desired.
     

Salary : $20 - $22
