What are the responsibilities and job description for the Summer Day Camp Counselor position at CITY OF DEARBORN HEIGHTS?
Job Summary:
Under general direction of the Deputy Director, Summer Recreation Counselors are responsible to provide and supervise a safe environment for all children, both physically, mentally, and emotionally. The employees of the City are required to serve citizens and customers in a tactful, courteous manner; establish and maintain good working relationships with staff, directors, elected officials, and general public.
Compensation:
$14.00-$16.00 per/hour. This is a part-time job and is not eligible for benefits nor paid time off.
Essential Job Functions:
- Be a positive role model
- Responsible for assisting Lead Counselor directly with day-to-day activities and ensuring the care and protection of campers
- Facilitate camp activities – including set up and clean up
- Maintain open lines of communication with Lead Counselor and parents
- Ability to explain and guide campers in adherence to policies and safety standards
- Confident in enforcing all safety and emergency records – must report all safety concerns and incidents to the program supervisor

Minimum Qualifications
- Must be 18 years old
- Must have high school diploma/GED
- Must be on time every day
- Must be able to be outside each day in the elements
- Must be present for mandatory training before camp starts
- Must pass background check.
