DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF WORK
MINIMUM AGE: 17 years
THOSE ELIGIBLE TO APPLY:
This position is available to Lifeguards who have satisfactorily completed at least two seasons at an Outdoor pool facility or at least six months at an Indoor pool facility.
HOURS AND PERIOD OF EMPLOYMENT:
Year round; 7-day operation; various shifts; Must be able to work evenings, weekends and holidays. Other than scheduled days off, requests are only granted if a qualified worker can substitute for the employee. It is the employee's responsibility to secure a substitute.
GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
The employee in this position will also act as a Head Lifeguard in the absence of the Head Lifeguard. Position may also teach swimming lessons at a municipal pool. This employee works as a lifeguard in the afternoons, evenings and on weekends.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Follows all employee and pool rules and regulations.
- Teaches swimming fundamentals to infants up to adults.
- Completes paperwork in a timely manner.
- Cleans locker rooms and showers daily.
- Handles chemical cleaning substances.
- Inspects swimmers for cleanliness before they enter the pool.
- May coach synchronized or competitive swim teams.
- Performs lifeguard duties after lessons.
- Wears required uniform.
- Operates the filter system and chemical feeder, monitors chemical readings and balances water level.
- Maintains grounds area equipment and tool repairs and vacuums the pool.
- Completes required reports neatly and in a timely fashion.
- Possesses some knowledge of swimming pool operations.
- Possesses ability to communicate effectively.
- Possesses ability to establish and maintain cooperative relationships with others.
- Possesses ability to complete lesson, accident, and participation forms
- Performs maintenance and cashier responsibilities.
- May substitute for a Head Lifeguard.
- Demonstrates regular and predictable attendance.
- Attends all training sessions/in-service training and staff meetings.
- Other duties as assigned.
EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING/LICENSING REQUIREMENTS
NECESSARY SPECIAL QUALIFICATIONS:
Must have reliable transportation to comply with regular and predictable attendance requirement.
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING:
- Must be able to pass the American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor’s course.
- Must have current Lifeguard Training and CPR for the Professional Rescuer certifications at time of application.
