This position is responsible for managing city recycling operations.
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
Manages the operations of city recycling facility and recycling routes.Serves as liaison between the general public and Recycling Truck Drivers to resolve problems.Trains, assigns, directs, supervises, evaluates and disciplines full-time, part-time and work release personnel.Purchases equipment and operating supplies; prepares bid specifications.Negotiates prices for baled recyclable materials; procures payments; maintains sales records.Manages monthly household hazardous waste collection; coordinates sponsors and volunteers.Prepares annual department budget requests and manages the expenditure of approved funds.Prepares ADEM compliance reports.Develops and delivers recycling education for school, church, and civic groups.Performs related duties.

These guidelines require judgment, selection, and interpretation in application.Complexity/Scope of WorkThe work consists of varied management, administrative, and supervisory, duties. The variety of tasks to be managed and performed contributes to the complexity of the position.The purpose of this position is to manage city recycling operations. Successful performance results in the provision of efficient and effective recycling services.ContactsContacts are typically with co-workers, other city personnel, elected and appointed officials, business and civic leaders, school personnel and students, representatives from state agencies, and members of the general public.Contacts are typically to give or exchange information, resolve problems, motivate personnel, and provide services.Physical Demands/Work EnvironmentThe work is typically performed while sitting at a desk or table or while intermittently sitting, standing, stooping, bending, crouching, or walking. The employee occasionally lifts light and heavy objects.The work is typically performed in an office and outdoors, occasionally in cold or inclement weather. The employee may be exposed to machinery with moving parts, contagious or infectious diseases, or irritating chemicals. Work requires the use of protective devices such as masks, goggles, gloves, etc.Supervisory and Management ResponsibilityThis position has direct supervision over the Recycling Supervisor, Recycling Truck Drivers, and other part-time and work release personnel.
