What are the responsibilities and job description for the Regional EHS Manager position at SA Recycling?
SA Recycling is looking for an initiative-taking and entrepreneurial minded individual to join our team as a Regional Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) Manager. The Regional EHS Manager will own all EHS activities for the N Alabama Region and partner with the General Managers (GM) and Regional General Manager (RGM) in the development and implementation of EHS programs, policies, and procedures to ensure compliance with SA Recycling’s standards, regulatory requirements, and industry best practices.
This position will work inside and outside in varying weather conditions, and SA Recycling strictly adheres to all Metals Recycling Business Health, Safety, and Environmental standards.

- Accountable for developing relationships with SA Recycling employees and promote and fostering an industry leading safety culture within the assigned region.
- Develop, conduct, or schedule EHS training programs for all employees in the assigned region to include new hire orientation, job-specific training, and on-going training to ensure compliance with all applicable EHS policies, procedures, and regulations.
- Prepare periodic environmental/regulatory reports for all applicable Federal, State, and Local Regulatory agencies and relevant internal departments; and maintain accurate and up-to-date records of all EHS activities including training, inspections, incidents, and corrective actions.
- Collaborate with cross functional teams to ensure EHS considerations are integrated into business operations including yard expansion/growth and process improvement initiatives.
- Implement and facilitate EHS management system strategies, action plans, best practices, and define performance goals by collaborating with local, regional, and corporate leaders.
- Conduct regular EHS inspections, risk assessments, and audits to ensure the efficacy of local and regional programs and goals; report on deviations from defined standards; and make recommendations to local and regional management on issue resolution.
- Coordinate local and regional environmental permitting (air, water, and waste) and maintain all required documentation.
- Bachelors Degree related to Occupational Safety, Environmental, or Natural Sciences; or equivalent work experience.
- 5 years of direct experience managing EHS programs in a metals recycling, heavy industry or manufacturing setting.
- Through knowledge of OSHA and strong working knowledge of EPA regulations required.
- Experience in conducting risk assessments, and developing and implementing EHS programs, policies, and best practices.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to communicate EHS programs and policies to employees at all levels within the organization.
- Ability to spend time in the assigned yards to ensure a safety culture from the ground level.
- Self-starter with demonstrated abilities to manage multiple projects and priorities in a fast-paced, changing environment.
- Ability to work independently and as a part of a cross-functional team.
- Ability to lead, grow, and mentor the next generation of EHS professionals.
- Fluency in Spanish a plus.
