BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE JOB: Public Works Inspector performs complex (senior level) construction inspection work, coordinating and conducting inspections and quality assurance reviews to ensure compliance with laws, regulations, and agency policies. Works under limited supervision, with considerable latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment. Additionally, the incumbent works closely with the City Engineer.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
· Collaborates and cooperatively works with other Engineering Department staff to deliver high quality City services effectively and efficiently.
· Reads and interprets engineering plans, schematic drawings, layouts, and other visual aids.
· Readily understands and applies construction plans, specifications, and estimates in the inspection process.
· Inspects the work of contractors for compliance with project plans and specifications, as well as applicable Codes, standards, and regulations.
· Makes recommendations how to correct violations and deficiencies; conducts follow-up inspections to determine compliance.
· Regularly conducts fieldwork, to include measuring, assessing, and documenting site conditions; conducts material take-offs.
· Calculates geometric, hydraulic, grade, and quantity estimates.
· Meets with residents, business owners, contractors, engineers, developers, landowners, and interest groups concerning subdivision and building projects.
· Maintains records and files associated with construction projects.
· Writes daily reports and field memoranda of a specialized nature in connection with construction projects.
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
Formal Education:
Work requires knowledge necessary to understand basic operational, technical, or office processes. High School diploma/GED.
Experience:
Three years experience is preferred.
Other Requirements:
The City reserves the right to allow an employee to obtain licenses/certifications during a reasonable timeframe agreed to in writing (unless otherwise prohibited or limited by law) as a condition of continued employment. Failure to obtain the licenses/certifications as agreed will result in termination.
Valid Texas Operator Driver’s License
Complexity:
Work is governed by broad instructions, objectives and policies. Requires the exercise of considerable initiative and independent analytical and evaluative judgment.
FLSA: Non-Exempt, full-time Salary: $18.00/hr. - $25.00/hr. DOQ
