Summary:
The primary responsibility for this position include ensuring guest, staff and facility safety. This includes knowing the aquatic facility rules and safety guidelines. A lifeguard must be able to effectively communicate with the guest, their co-workers and the leadership team.
PRIMARY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Caution swimmers regarding unsafe practices.
- Rescues swimmers in danger of drowning and administers first aid, CPR and/or AED.
- Maintain order in swimming areas by consistently enforcing rules.
- Inspects facilities for cleanliness.
- Maintain lifeguarding skills to a test-ready level at all times.
- Attends mandatory lifeguard in-service training through the summer.
- Supervise patrons within pool facility: on pool deck, pool furniture, pool lobby and in the pool.
- Adheres to posted job schedule.
- Punctual when reporting for duty, shows up no less than 15 minutes prior to the start of a class.
- Act in a professional manner at all times.
- Provide quality customer service.
- Communicates effectively with all levels of staff.
- Maintain fitness level (swimming skills, strength and endurance)
- Performs all other related duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:
DESIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education and/or Experience:
- Must be at least 16 years of age
- Ability to self-motivate with little or no supervision.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Willingness to obtain Jeff Ellis & Associates Certification, Advanced CPR & First Aid, and Oxygen Administration and AED Certified.
- Certification is valid for one year.
- Attend four (4) hours of in-service per month issued by employer.
- Bilingual language skills a plus
- Work well with children

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
- Must complete a prerequisite screening test to assess general swimming skills.
- Complete a 100-meter swim, five (5) foot Dive Brick Depth Retrieval and Tread without use of arms and hands for one (1) minute.
- Ability to exit standard pools unassisted from pool edge, without use of ladder or stairs.
