Job Overview
The Lifeguard (Summer) will monitor pool activities and ensure student safety. The incumbent will also perform a variety of tasks including working with students in a summer enrichment program, creating a safe and positive atmosphere that promotes student safety, while engaging students in developmentally appropriate activities in accordance with policies and procedures.

Position Description
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
PROGRAM DUTIES
- Work with children in summer enrichment program; communicate clearly, effectively and in a positive manner with children including expectations and rules
- Maintain active surveillance of the pool area and remain alert throughout an entire shift to prevent incidents
- Implement water safety and swim instruction that is developmentally appropriate
- Maintain accurate and reliable attendance records as required by the Extended Learning department and/or state licensing
- Respond to challenges with possible solutions in a timely manner
- Remain calm and objective under pressure or when challenged by others
- Demonstrate consistent and courteous behavior
- Attend lifeguard pre-season & in-service training as well as preparation meetings and staff development
- Respond to emergency situations immediately in accordance with policies and procedures and complete related reports as required
- Know, understand, and apply safety rules, policies, and guidelines for the pool/aquatic facility

The employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, and the ability to adjust focus. Attendance at conferences and professional development is required. Work involves everyday risks and discomforts which require normal safety precautions when operating equipment or performing job duties. May work prolonged or irregular hours and must be able to maintain emotional control under stress.

- High School diploma or GED Preferred
- Life Guard Certificate
- Certified in First Aid, CPR & AED Usage
- Current CPR Certification
- Valid Texas Drivers License
- Minimum of 1 year Lifeguard experience preferred
- Minimum of 1 year Previous experience working with children preferred
- Ability to communicate clearly, both orally and in writing
- Ability to implement planned activities and supervise children
