SUMMARY: Under general supervision by the assigned department head. The purpose of this position is to lead in the daily operations of the golf course pro-shop by collecting green fees and other money, ensuring the clubhouse is in good order and open for business, is organized, and running appropriately for sale of concessions and sport. Other duties include assisting customers, planning tournaments and other activities, and assisting in all aspects of the course’s business while also acting as public relations manager. This position is also expected to manage the inventory of shop merchandise, and concessions including purchasing, stocking, and balancing the finances. The manager is expected to make sure the shop is popular, profitable, and dedicated to superb customer service. Plans and carries out assignments with defined objectives, priorities, and deadlines, handles problems and deviations in the work in accordance with instructions, policies or accepted practices. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS TO BE CONSIDERED:
Education and Experience: • Required: associate degree in applied business or other closely related field; one (1) to three (3) years’ experience in managing/supervising a business; prefer golf course experience. Preferred: bachelor’s degree in business administration, or other closely related field. • Valid Texas Drivers’ License Class C
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: • Knowledge in the day-to-day management of operations and services of a golf course to include golf shops, tournaments, practice facilities, and cart fleet. • Knowledge in how to properly to manage and maintain golf facilities and grounds. • Knowledge in the promotion of the facility’s services to potential customers and the oversight of member events and daily play. • Knowledge and ability in first level management of subordinate staff. • Ability to exercise good judgment and make sound decisions. • Ability to ensure that project/department milestones/goals are met and adhere to budgets, and on time. • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with City officials, co-workers, city departments and the general public. • Ability to assign, delegate, review, and inspect work completed. • Ability to train, motivate and evaluate staff. • Skilled knowledge of the rules, etiquette, instructional mechanics, and all related areas of the game of golf. • Skilled in the use and knowledge of equipment, tools, supplies and techniques of the game of golf. • Knowledge of the game of golf rules, handicap, course rating system and the mechanics of golf. • Ability to coordinate golf activities, such as leagues and tournament. • Ability to communicate clearly both in writing and orally. • Skilled in the use of personal computer to include Microsoft Office; knowledge of computer operations including spreadsheet formulation. • Skilled in safety regulations, work practices and procedures. • Ability to safely operate and care for City vehicle in carrying out the business of the department and the City. • Ability to work in adverse weather conditions.
Other requirements for this position: Golf Course Business Manager may not play on SFGC during the scheduled work hours/ nor participate in tournaments, and when playing, must keep an up-to-date monthly membership or pay-per-play, as any other SFGC customers.
