Exempt: No Reports to: Meter Supervisor
Hours: 40 per week Date: 2025
SUMMARY: This position performs work to help ensure the accuracy of utility billing accounts in the Customer Service Department. The employee maintains radio read meters for the residents of the City. Must operate equipment in connection with tasks assigned. Work requires customer contact for new meter installation, service repairs, meter diagnostics, and general customer assistance. Work is performed under the supervision of the Customer Service Meter Supervisor.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Exports and imports routes for cycle reading weekly.

Trouble shoots and repairs radio read meters, identifying and resolving problems.

Inspects the meters for leaks, broken boxes, broken connections, and safety hazards.

Processes all service orders (turn offs, turn on, same day turn on, etc.) as required.

Routes service requests for efficiency in completing daily tasks.

Reinstallation of meters as needed.

Performs minor maintenance including lid repairs and locating meters for customers.

Pull meter diagnostics to provide customer with consumption information.

Verifies if leaks are fixed for adjustments.

Speak with customers on difficult inquiries to include high consumption/leaks.

Must participate in on-call rotation.

Maintains, cleans, refuels, and organizes vehicles; stocks inventory with needed parts and equipment.

Serves as essential personnel during natural or man-made disasters and emergencies.

Performs disconnections on delinquent accounts.
- Remove meters for tampering.Provide good customer service and deal with the general public in a professional, courteous manner.

Performs other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, and/or abilities required. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. The employee must possess a valid Florida Driver’s License.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE: Graduate of an accredited high school or possess an acceptable equivalency diploma is required. Experience of installation and repair of radio read meters is preferred.
REASONING ABILITY: The applicant must have the ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram forms. The applicant must also be able to deal with problems involving several variables in standardized situations when immediate guidance from the supervisor may not be available.
OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Knowledge of tools, equipment and materials used in the maintenance, repair and installation of water meters is preferred.

Ability to learn and retain streets and meter locations, within the service area.

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships as necessitated by the work.

Ability to fill out reports and work orders with good penmanship.

Ability to communicate effectively and courteously with the public.

Ability to read and write.

Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.

Ability to work independently in a diligent manner.

Tact and courtesy are essential.
WORK ENVIRONMENT/ADA: The applicant must be in good physical condition. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to walk, stand, kneel, bend, stoop, or drive. The employee will work outside in various weather conditions and in or with moving vehicles and/or equipment.
