Under direct supervision and general direction from the WWTP Supervisor, performs semi-skilled and skilled work and provides lead direction in the installation, maintenance, and repair of underground sewer collection systems, storm water collection systems, and related facilities as assigned by the WWTP Supervisor, or his / her designee. This classification is above the journey-level classifications of the Wastewater Collection Systems Operators I and II, requiring the possession of both journey-level skills and the responsibility to lay out work, lead work and train crews, and perform assigned administrative tasks. This classification is distinguished from the WWTP Supervisor by the latter's responsibility for the planning, organizing, coordination, supervision, and inspection of the City's Sanitary Sewer Maintenance Program (SSMP).
Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Install, clean, maintain, repair and replace underground sewer collection systems, storm water collection systems, and related facilities, including storm drains, sewer systems, sumps, manholes and lift stations.Measure cuts, join and tap steel, cast iron and asbestos cement, sewer pipes.Locate and repair leaks in the sanitary sewer system.Systematically clean and maintain sewer collection system as established under the City's Sanitary Sewer Maintenance Program (SSMP).Respond to emergency and non-emergency callbacks to control, clean up and disinfect any Sanitary Sewer Overflows (SSOs) as required.Repair and maintain storm drains, mains, catch basins, manholes and related structures.Operate a variety of hand tools, power tools and equipment related to the trade, including compressors, concrete saws and pavement breakers.May operate various motor vehicles and construction equipment, such as a backhoe, in the course of daily duties, perform routine maintenance, and make safety checks.Maintain and keep storm water sumps clear of mosquitoes, weeds and erosion and applies pesticides.Respond to customer complaints.Determine source of problem, advise customer if problem is not the City's responsibility.Pump flooded areas.Replace and repair concrete and asphalt after repairs are completed.May perform welding as required on a "per project" basis.Observe proper safety precautions and maintain work site in a safe and orderly function. Adhere to safety practices, precautions and regulations, and protect the safety of employees and the public who may be in or near the work site.Carry out assignments in a non-disruptive manner in areas receiving heavy public use.Read and interpret plans, specifications, blueprints and schematics.Keep a basic record of work performed.Assists other divisions in maintenance work, or serves as temporary relief for other division employees.Performs a variety of other duties as assigned.Plan, organize, schedule, assign and evaluate work crews in the installation and maintenance of sewer collection and storm water collection systems. Provide working technical assistance to work crews.Layout work, from plans, specifications, blueprints, and schematics.Estimates required equipment, material, labor and time needed for proposed activities and assignments.Coordinate work activities with other crews, contractors, departments and agencies.Assist with and undertake special projects, as assigned.Perform or provide lead direction in the performance of a variety of general office support work, such as organizing and maintaining various files. Type correspondence, reports, forms, agendas, and other specialized documents.Operate standard and specialized office equipment, as directed.Minimum Qualifications

Any combination of education and experience that demonstrates possession of the requisite knowledge, skill and abilities. A typical way to obtain these would be :
High School Diploma or an equivalent certificate or diploma recognized by the State of California.Maintain a valid Class C California Driver License with a driving record acceptable to the City.Must be able to respond to emergency situations during off-hours.Bilingual fluency in English and Spanish is desirable.Failure to acquire or maintain required certificates within the time provided will lead to termination of employment at the end of the appropriate period below.Three (3) years of responsible experience in and maintenance work equivalent to systems and related work of the City's Wastewater Collection Systems Operator I.Possess a Class B California Driver License with appropriate endorsements upon time of employment or assignment to the classification.Possess or be able to obtain a Grade III Collection System Maintenance Certificate, or other qualification as required by the State of California, within two (2) years of employment or assignment to the classification.Selection Process :
