DEFINITION:
Under close supervision, the purpose of the position is to perform routine clerical, secretarial and administrative work in receiving public, answering telephones, and providing customer assistance to facilitate the conduct of business at the City's Water Utility. This position receives and maintains records of cash receipts for payment of bills, deposits and fees. Employees in this classification perform customer-oriented service and clerical work.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS (Not all-inclusive):
Assists and greets customers and visitors; answers questions and handles inquiries from citizens; provides detailed utility account information; reviews and troubleshoots customer accounts for high bills and unexplained usage; refers to appropriate department or staff member as necessary. Receives, counts, balances, validates, and reports cash and negotiable instruments for payment of bills, deposits, fees and other related items for the City. Collects and processes payments from customers either by phone, email, or in person. Establishes and modifies customer accounts by entering information into the finance system, taking funds, printing receipts, and creating customer files. Balances daily collections and disbursements and prepares reports as instructed; prepares daily deposits, cash summaries, and copies of summaries. Performs database cleanup on master files to ensure customer data is correct. Prepares water services orders for turn-on, turn-off, and meter changes.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Requires High School graduation or GED equivalent.
Requires two years of customer service experience, with call center or utility customer service preferred.
Bilingual preferred.
