Responsible for operating, maintaining, and repairing high-pressure combination cleaners and quick response truck. Work is performed with considerable independence under general supervision and is reviewed for results produced.
Essential Functions and Other Important Duties
Essential Functions:
- As first in command on flushing truck crew directs the operation of all equipment associated with jet sewer cleaning equipment in accordance with relevant safety procedures.
- Performs procedures for the proper and safe repair, maintenance, and cleaning of sewers through the safe and efficient use of jet sewer cleaning equipment.
- Completes routine maintenance and repairs as necessary to obtain maximum use of jet sewer cleaning equipment.
- Maintains, repairs, and operates high-pressure water pumps and vacuum pipe equipment.
- Follows established safety practices and care of equipment procedures.
- Accepts and completes assignments within deadlines and demonstrates a commitment to established customer service standards.
- Responsible for on-call after hours emergencies for sewer chokes, sewer line repairs, investigation of customer complaints, etc. on a rotating basis
- Confers with customers regarding service problems and reports information obtained to supervisor
- Uses flushing truck for hydro excavation
- Maintains regular and punctual on-site attendance
- Performs other duties as assigned
- Works with field crews to install/repair the wastewater collections system
Job Requirements
Minimum Qualifications/Acceptable Equivalency:
- High school diploma or GED equivalent

Three years of experience in water utilities field operations or utility construction
OR
- Any combination of related education, experience, certifications and licenses that will result in a candidate successfully performing the essential functions of the job
- Ability to read and understand reference books and complicated procedures such as utility plans and equipment operation manuals
- Ability to use a tablet computer in the field to process work orders
- Skilled in the operation of flushing truck.
- Demonstrates an ability to deal courteously and effectively with the public, and to work effectively with immediate supervisor and other department staff.
- Demonstrates an ability to effectively listen, speak, write and interact within a work group.
- Demonstrates an ability to follow complex oral and written instructions. Demonstrates an ability to listen to and speak with the public and staff customers.
- Bilingual in Spanish and English
- Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing
- Possess Unit II Wastewater Collections Certification from TCEQ
- At least two years of experience operating a flushing truck
- Must possess and maintain a valid Class “A” CDL driver’s license with tanker endorsements OR must possess a valid Class C driver license with a good driving record and the ability to obtain a Class A CDL with Tank Vehicle endorsement within six (6) months of employment
- Must pass a drug test, driver’s license check, criminal history background check, and social security number verification check
- Must pass a physical examination
- Must be able to work a flexible schedule that could include nights and weekends
- Must be able to work overtime when requested
- Good physical condition to be able to perform physical tasks in all kinds of weather
- Requires lifting up to 100 lbs.
- Must be able to work in confined spaces such as trenches and manholes
- Must possess or be able to obtain a Class II Wastewater Collections License within 18 months of employment
