The purpose of this position is to inspect new and existing commercial and residential land development project construction as well as City's Capital Improvement Program's project construction to ensure that all trades comply with applicable local, state, and federal codes, adopted standards, and design guidance manuals. This is accomplished by reviewing and interpreting plans; inspecting construction or installation works, planned infrastructures and assigned projects; meeting with contractors, builders and property owners; enforcing codes and policies; and reviewing applications and issuing permits. Other duties may include inspecting and investigating City infrastructure, preparing and coordinating activities of construction projects, and ensuring and monitoring the quantity and quality controls and safety of projects and project activities.
Specific Duties and Responsibilities
Inspects different type of infrastructures and project items or elements regularly or as needed for compliance by reading and interpreting plans; reviewing and interpreting codes; approving or denying installation of materials or systems; developing or updating reports, status tracker, and correspondence; preparing completion or acceptance letter; and providing additional information to property owners / developers and construction personnel;Inspecting permitted construction or installation works within the Public Right-of-way.Serves as the main point of consultation for inspections within the Public ROW, Private Development and Capital Improvement Program projects;Provides oversight and direction regarding construction materials and grade elevations; reviewing underground facilities; instructing on safety precautions; assessing road and concrete structures, street light installations, traffic devices, and erosion and sedimentation control;Assists Construction Manager in ensuring contractor compliance to City standards by coordinating testing; reviewing engineering plans; completing on-site inspections; conducting follow-up inspections; and resolving issues with agencies and contractors;Communicates with the Division Manager, design consultant and contractor to address technical and field issues and any conflicts in design and construction phase;Provides technical opinion including solution to address construction related issues,Reviews geotechnical or soil testing results, construction materials or field test results and inspection reports and takes necessary steps;Ensures proper documentation of project related files including plans, reports, memo, letters, contract documents, bonds, and legal documents;Updates and maintains multiple status tracking report and database;Engages with the public by answering questions; providing information;Attends Pre-construction meeting, Mid-construction meeting, any field meetings;Attend all meetings related to assigned projects and other meetings as required;Conduct final inspection for assigned projects and prepare the punch list items report;Review invoices received from contractors of different City projects and prepare pay applications;Performs other assigned duties.Qualifications
Associates Degree in Construction Management or other closely related field;3 (three) years of public works construction / and or inspection experience;Or equivalent training, education, and / or experience;Texas Construction Inspector Certification; MUTCD Certification; and TCEQ Class C Water, Wastewater Collection II License preferred; andValid Driver's License.Must be physically capable of moving about on construction work sites and under adverse field conditions.Supplemental Information
