The purpose of the position is to manage and coordinate all activities of the Planning Department, including the administration of the Zoning and Subdivision Ordinances; and overseeing the completion of plans and studies. This is accomplished by working closely with applicants to ensure all issues are identified and can be resolved prior to the case going forward; implementing goals and objectives of the Comprehensive Plan; providing direction to the Planning and Zoning Commission and City Council; and serving as staff liaison to the Planning Commission and Board of Adjustment. Other duties may include preparing and presenting information at board and commission meetings.
- Manages daily activities of the planning department by updating, implementing, monitoring, and interpreting City’s Comprehensive Plan; and monitoring zoning or platting cases during the approval process;
- Reviews planned development proposals, site plans, and plats by conducting plat reviews and/or on-site visits; ensuring site plans meet regulatory and City requirements; ensuring all non-compliances are listed by the developer as requested deviations; providing comments to developers regarding clarifications, additions and/or deletions needed in site plans and/or other application information;
- Creates Planned Development Ordinances by reviewing requests and documentation with City Attorney for compliance issues; and preparing and presenting staff reports for City management and council;
- Presents cases to City Council, Planning and Zoning Commission, and Board of Adjustment by preparing presentations; reviewing development requirements; and providing clarifications as necessary; and
- Performs other assigned duties.
- Bachelor’s degree;
- Five (5) years of related work experience;
- American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP) certification preferred;
- Or equivalent training, education, and/or experience; and
- Valid Driver’s License.
- Knowledge of City policies and procedures;
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite;
- Skill in managing municipal planning and zoning;
- Skill in managing, training, and evaluating staff;
- Skill in communicating effectively both orally and in writing;
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret developer site plans;
- Ability to work flexible hours, including some nights and weekends; and
- Ability to establish and maintain working relationships with City administration, other employees, and the general public.
Salary : $83,700 - $122,200
