General Description:
The Refuse Truck Driver is responsible for operating and maintaining a refuse collection truck for the safe and efficient collection of residential and commercial waste, recycling materials, and yard debris. This position plays a critical role in maintaining public health and safety by ensuring timely waste removal services throughout the community. The driver must follow designated routes, adhere to safety protocols, and maintain a professional relationship with the public.
Major Tasks:
Operate a refuse truck along assigned routes for the collection of waste and recycling materials.
Perform daily vehicle pre-trip and post-trip inspections to ensure the refuse truck is in good working order, reporting any issues to the supervisor.
Safely load, transport, and unload solid waste, recyclables, and yard debris at designated disposal sites.
Follow specific route schedules and adjust as needed based on road or weather conditions.
Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal safety regulations, including traffic laws and waste management protocols.
Provide excellent customer service by responding to resident or business inquiries in a courteous and professional manner.
Monitor truck for any mechanical issues, perform basic troubleshooting, and report needed repairs.
Clean and maintain refuse truck interiors and exteriors as required.
Assist with other Public Works duties, including snow removal, as needed.
Knowledge Areas:
Strong knowledge of local streets and neighborhoods is preferred. Commitment to safety and following standard operating procedures.
Skill/Ability Areas:
Ability to sit for extended periods while driving. Frequent standing, walking, bending, and lifting during waste collection activities. Manual dexterity required for operation and control of refuse truck and related equipment.
Must be able to lift at least 40 lbs. Ability to perform physical labor, including lifting heavy containers, and work in various weather conditions. Ability to communicate effectively and follow both verbal and written instructions.

License/Certification:
- CDL Class B with Air Brake Endorsement (Preferred)
