Do you have what it takes to be part of our team? The City of Dover’s Electric Department is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Grounds Worker I. The essential function of this position within the organization is to provide assistance to line workers when working near electrical lines. The position is responsible for assigned tasks. The position works under direct supervision according to set procedures.
Job Responsibilities
· Drive and operate equipment such as bucket truck or backhoe
· Operate overhead equipment and hydraulic drills and saws
· Aid line workers as needed, including pulling and splicing wire, digging pole holes, tree cleanup work and building line poles
· Prepare materials for work and stock trucks, including maintaining and checking crew equipment to ensure proper functioning
· Repair issues on low voltage lines when directed
Required Qualifications
· A High School Diploma or GED
· Valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) or the ability to obtain a CDL permit within three (3) months and CDL license within six (6) months
· A Department of Transportation (DOT) physical associated with the CDL is required along with a pre-employment drug and alcohol test
· Ability to climb poles and work in the elements to include extreme heat and cold as well as all types of inclement weather
· Requires normal visual acuity and field of vision, hearing, speaking and color perception
· Working on religious holidays and 24-7 rotating on call duties
· Completion of an apprenticeship is part of the training process
