Maintain an adequate inventory of supplies, materials, parts, tools, and equipment necessary to provide timely service in a cost effective manner. Acquire special order items efficiently and cost effectively.

The current opening is within our Utility Operations Division of the Public Works and Utilities Department.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities (other duties may be assigned)

1. Order, receive, store, safeguard, maintain, and disburse parts, materials, supplies, tools, and equipment.
2. Ensure that inventory count is adequate, cost effective, and accurate using various methods such as a full inventory count, cycle counting, or spot checking.
3. Determine stocking levels, reorder points, and obsolescence.
4. Order inventory as necessary to maintain stocking levels, utilizing quantity, shipping, and other discounts as appropriate and in order to reduce holding and ordering costs.
5. Receive inventory appropriately, checking shipping documents for accuracy before authorizing payment and storing inventory appropriately for safekeeping and efficient retrieval.
6. Safeguard inventory to reduce costs caused by factors such as misappropriation or damage.
7. Disburse inventory as appropriate and with documentation to ensure proper accounting and receipt of payment.
8. Identify alternate sources for items used.
9. Locate sources for, order, and acquire items needed but not stocked in an efficient and cost-effective manner.
10. Authorize expenditures within established limits of authority.
11. Assign work and coordinate work schedules of Assistant Storekeepers.
12. Train team in safe and proper work methods and procedures.
13. Monitor work for compliance with established methods, guidelines, standards and procedures.

Minimum Qualifications

A. Four years of verifiable full-time experience maintaining and safeguarding inventory in a service or manufacturing setting.
B. Experience in an automotive, truck, or heavy equipment service setting is preferred.

License Requirements
A. Possession of a valid driver's license.
B. Acquire and maintain forklift certification within six months of hire.
C. A.S.E. Parts Specialist Certification desired.

Selection Process Information

Education/Experience Review (weight 100% of scoring process; 70 pass point): Applicants meeting the minimum qualifications will be rated based on the type (relatedness) and extent of their education and experience as documented on their application and/or supplemental questionnaire. Applicants who pass this exam will have their names placed on an eligible list for this classification.

Any applicant who has been found qualified to participate in a selection process for a position in the classified service who has reason to contest the validity or fairness of any step in the selection process may appeal to the Civil Service Board within 10 calendar days of the examination. (If the examination is an Education/Experience Review, the applicant must appeal within 10 calendar days of the closing date for accepting applications.) The notice of appeal shall be in writing, shall contain a complete statement of the matter in controversy and the relief requested, and shall be signed and dated by the appellant. The notice shall be addressed to the Civil Service Board and be delivered to the Human Resources Office. If an applicant wishes to file an appeal electronically, the notice should be sent by email to hrinformation@duluthmn.gov.
