Essential Job Duties
What You’ll Do in This Role:
- Identify and mark utility service lines to help contractors prepare for construction.
- Train staff on how to use utility location equipment and follow standard procedures.
- Work with other departments, divisions, and utilities to coordinate and prioritize tasks.
- Help contractors and the City’s Capital Improvements Construction Management (CICM) division locate utility lines.
- Collaborate with the Geographic Information System (GIS) Division to maintain accurate utility maps by documenting and reporting discrepancies, incorporating field discoveries, and ensuring new utility installations are reflected in the system.
You Have:
- A high school diploma or GED equivalent.
- One or more years of experience performing maintenance work.
- One or more years of experience as a utility locator.
- Ability to obtain certification in Water Distribution and Wastewater Collection within one year of hire date.
- Knowledge of safety practices and construction methods, including water, wastewater, and utility systems.
- Skill in operating and maintaining utility locating equipment, vehicles, and basic computer systems for data entry and work management.
- Ability to perform skilled and semi-skilled maintenance, operate equipment safely, and work effectively in various weather conditions.
- Strong communication and customer service skills, with the ability to build effective working relationships.
