Forestry Technician - Seasonal
Spring/Summer, 2025
This position will be responsible for assisting with a variety of forestry and landscaping related tasks including ground preparation, planting, mulching, tree trimming and removal, watering, fertilizing, and general maintenance.
This position runs through late summer.
Pay: $16.356 - $20.691 per hour, DOQ
Seasonal/Temporary, Non-Exempt, Not Benefit Eligible

Perform any combination of the following duties:
- Pruning and care of shade and ornamental trees and shrubs
- Assisting with installation of park landscape plantings
- Removal of dead trees from public property
- Clearing and brush work for new parks and trails, chipping brush
- Mulching and irrigating trees
- Assisting with prairie management
- Assisting with Tree Inventory Program
Safely operate the following equipment:
- Chain saw
- Skid steer loader
- Small tractor or loader with various attachments
- Brush chipper
- Variety of hand tools
- Other forestry related equipment
Other Position Functions:
- Assist other city departments as assigned
- Miscellaneous tasks related to City forestry and park operations; other duties as assigned
- 18 years of age or older by the start of the position
- Valid Driver’s License
- Must be able to communicate effectively with co-workers and the public
- Must be physically capable of performing the assigned tasks and able to perform all essential position functions
- Must be neatly groomed and willing to wear and maintain a City issued uniform
- Must be able to lift 70 pounds and work in a variety of weather conditions
- Significant experience in forestry or landscaping
- Associates degree or certificate in forestry or horticulture
Working Conditions: 95% field 5% Other
Must be able to work outdoors in all weather conditions experienced in Eagan during the months of April through November. Weather conditions encountered may include heat, cold, rain, snow, sleet, wind, etc.
Hours of Work:
- Normally 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., Monday through Friday
- Average 40 hours per week during peak season, occasional hours during April and November (before and after peak season). Schedule may be shifted to include weekends or evenings as determined by the workload or assignment
