Summary
Plans, organizes, and coordinates athletic programs and services for a variety of activities, sporting events, and programs for a diverse community population that includes but is not limited to youth, adaptive, adult and senior adults. Serves as a lead official for athletic sports and leagues including, but not limited to, flag football, volleyball, basketball, baseball, and softball.

The Athletic Programs Specialist is the second level in a career path for implementing athletic programs and services. The Specialist will be qualified to implement and officiate a variety of athletic programs and services including, but not limited to, flag football, volleyball, basketball, baseball, and softball programs. The Specialist will demonstrate the ability to implement programs according to exact schedules and oversee and train seasonal staff and volunteers. The next stage in career advancement is to Sr. Athletic Programs Specialist.
Requirements
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Assists in the planning and implements athletic leagues, camps, and programs. Accepts registration forms and fees. Provides support to Sr. Athletic Specialist and fellow Athletic Specialists.
- Officiate sports leagues including, but not limited to, flag football, volleyball, basketball, baseball, and softball.
- Assists in the completion of Daily League Reports and pre-game facility inspection for assigned athletic leagues and games.
- Implements athletic division and department operation procedures and policies.
- Assists in the maintenance and inventory of athletic programs and services equipment.
- Participates in assessing program needs by conducting surveys, receiving customer requests, and by monitoring trends in registration.
- Recommends new athletic programs and services. Implements approved programs. Evaluates registration and fees received for programs versus the cost of scheduling, announcing, and instructing the program.
- Communicates regularly with volunteer coaches, parents, and program participants.
- Monitors the work of seasonal recreation assistants, attendants, and volunteers involved
- in providing athletic programs and services.
- Assists in the scheduling and otherwise arranges for the use of facilities and fields for athletic programs and services.
- Maintains records and prepares reports on program activities, invoices, attendance forms, work orders, and registration.
- Initiates requests for purchases and maintains program supplies and equipment.
- Serves as a first point of contact for recreational program customers. Takes routes and delivers telephone messages, makes copies of correspondence, forms, and notices.
- Assists in the coordination of on-site organization and implementation of athletic programs and services.
- Contributes to overall athletic programs and services planning for the City through participation in staff meetings.
- May perform some light maintenance duties as related to activity area including cleaning surfaces, picking up trash, storing supplies, removing recreation hazards.
- Performs other duties as assigned that support the overall objective of the position.
