What are the responsibilities and job description for the Bike Patrol Cadet position at City Of East Grand Rapids?
Under the supervision of the School Liaison Officer with oversight by the Detective Sergeant and broad oversight from the Public Safety Director, the Bike Patrol Cadet is a non-sworn seasonal employee that will work between May-September. Bike Patrol Cadets enforce various city ordinances, assist road patrol officers, and participate in pro-active crime prevention activity.
- Ride a bicycle.
- Enforce city ordinances including parking ordinances.
- Give tours of the Department and provide information about the Department to children and their parents.
- Assist the department with various administrative tasks and serve as a liaison between the department and the community.
- Performs other related work as required.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- State of Michigan Vehicle Operator's License, a satisfactory driving record, and the ability to maintain one throughout employment.
- Ability to pass a criminal background check and drug test.
- Excellent customer service skills, including responding diplomatically to customer questions and complaints.
- Ability to communicate effectively and present ideas and concepts orally.
- Ability to multi-task, problem-solve, and work effectively under stress, within deadlines and changes in work priorities.
- Be physically capable of walking, standing, and riding a bicycle for periods of time
- Prior experience or educational background in criminal justice preferred.
