Bike Patrol Cadet

Under the supervision of the School Liaison Officer with oversight by the Detective Sergeant and broad oversight from the Public Safety Director, the Bike Patrol Cadet is a non-sworn seasonal employee that will work between May-September.   Bike Patrol Cadets enforce various city ordinances, assist road patrol officers, and participate in pro-active crime prevention activity.  
 

 

• Ride a bicycle.
• Enforce city ordinances including parking ordinances.
• Give tours of the Department and provide information about the Department to children and their parents.
• Assist the department with various administrative tasks and serve as a liaison between the department and the community.
• Performs other related work as required.

• High school diploma or equivalent.    
• State of Michigan Vehicle Operator's License, a satisfactory driving record, and the ability to maintain one throughout employment.
• Ability to pass a criminal background check and drug test.
• Excellent customer service skills, including responding diplomatically to customer questions and complaints.
• Ability to communicate effectively and present ideas and concepts orally.
• Ability to multi-task, problem-solve, and work effectively under stress, within deadlines and changes in work priorities.
• Be physically capable of walking, standing, and riding a bicycle for periods of time
• Prior experience or educational background in criminal justice preferred.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works in an outdoor environment where they stand, walk, and ride a bicycle in the street next to passing motor vehicles.  The employee will be subject to heat, rain, and a mix of weather.  The employee must occasionally lift and/or move items of moderate to heavy weight.
