What are the responsibilities and job description for the Finance Assistant - Treasury Department position at City of East Lansing?
Provides excellent customer service by answering questions and providing information to the public, outside agencies, and other departments; receives citizen and client complaints and questions. Additionally, answers telephone lines for the organization and routes all incoming calls in a courteous and businesslike manner. Collects and distributes all incoming and outgoing mail and other correspondence for all departments.
Prepares daily deposits, which include sales of parking permits, tax and utility payments, and miscellaneous receipts. Maintains petty cash drawer; maintains record of tickets sent to court; processes and prepares water/sewer billings, validation billings, and other billings. Updates information pertaining to water/sewer and tax accounts. Sets up accounts receivable for all miscellaneous bills; posts payments and balances accounts; logs payments and balances of current and delinquent ambulance bills; and sends collection notices to customers. Performs other related tasks and projects as assigned.

Qualifications
REQUIREMENTS:
One to two years of increasingly responsible technical accounting experience.
An Associate’s Degree or equivalent with major coursework in accounting, finance, or a related field OR equivalent training, education, and/or experience.
Must be able to:
Operate a variety of office equipment and computer equipment
Work effectively with customers
Work in a shared office environment working closely with other staff
Special Requirements
Additionally, to perform the essential functions of the job, an individual may be required to stay in one period for prolonged periods of time, handle moderately heavy bags or boxes, and operate assigned office equipment, including computers.
