What are the responsibilities and job description for the Income Tax Assistant -Treasury Department position at City of East Lansing?
We are seeking a detail-oriented and organized City Income Tax Assistant to join our municipal finance team. This position plays a vital role in supporting a variety of income tax processing activities, including essential support in customer service and correspondence, tax compliance, employer tax withholding, cash receipting, balancing, and other duties as assigned.
The position serves as a primary customer contact representative in a service-oriented environment. It utilizes available resources and knowledge to assist public taxpayers and provide backup to the City’s Income Tax Administrator. The ideal candidate will assist with the processing, auditing of income tax returns, as well as reviewing records and performing fieldwork to determine that all businesses located within the City of East Lansing follow the Income Tax Act requirements.
Qualifications
REQUIREMENTS:
One to two years responding to customer inquiries and resolving problems.
One to two years of experience in a tax processing-related field of work.
An associate degree or equivalent with major coursework in accounting, finance, or a related field OR equivalent training, education, and/or experience.
MUST BE ABLE TO:
Operate a variety of office equipment and computer equipment.
Work effectively with customers.
Work in a shared office environment, working closely with other staff.
Special Requirements
To perform the job's essential functions, an individual may be required to stay in one place for prolonged periods and operate assigned office equipment, including computers.
