What are the responsibilities and job description for the Library Assistant (part-time) position at City of East Orange?
Role and Responsibilities: Under close supervision, performs a variety of routine library tasks; does other related duties as required
- Handles routine library circulation tasks such as charging and discharging library materials to users, computing and collecting fines, and answering patron inquiries.
- Must be comfortable using a cash registrar and handling money.
- Checks shelves to ensure materials are filed properly.
- Assists patrons with basic directional questions and locating library materials as needed.
- Provides friendly and courteous assistance to customers in person, by phone, and/or email.
Qualifications and Education Requirements High School Diploma or GED required. Associate degree preferred. Good oral and written communication skills. Able to work a flexible schedule some weekends required. Appointees will be required to possess a valid New Jersey driver’s license.
Preferred Skills: Knowledge of basic arithmetic using whole numbers, and various types of electronic and/or manual recording and information systems used by the office.
Ability to: understand, remember, and carry out oral and written directions; converse concisely and courteously to display excellent customer service skills; to perform numerical filing beyond the initial digit of sequence of figures.
Job Type: Part-time
Pay: $20.00 per hour
