What are the responsibilities and job description for the Building Maintenance Tech position at City of East Point?
· Acquires and coordinates with contractors for maintenance work on City buildings;
· Receives and completes work orders related to building maintenance;
· Performs basic electrical and plumbing work;
· Sets up meeting room for all City Council meetings and other City functions;
· Evaluates heating and air-conditioning units in City buildings;
· Performs other related duties as necessary.
High School diploma or equivalent; two (2) years of experience in building maintenance and technical training; must possess a valid State of Georgia Driver’s license; equivalent combination of education and experience.· Considerable knowledge of building maintenance requirements;
· Knowledge of various HVAC systems installation, repair and maintenance;
· Knowledge of safety procedures related to the installation, repair and maintenance of various electrical and mechanical control systems and devices;
· Knowledge of locating and adjusting defects in electronic systems and equipment;
· Considerable skill in electrical and plumbing tasks;
· Considerable skill in carpentry;
· Skill in operating a variety of hand and power tools;
· Ability to work independently to meet deadlines;
· Ability to coordinate with contractors;
· Ability to work on multiple tasks at one time;
· Ability to evaluate a problem and identify solutions.
Supervisory Controls: This position is under the direct supervision of the Buildings & Grounds Manager.
Guidelines: Guidelines include City codes, departmental policies and procedures, State and Federal rules, OSHA laws, Georgia DOT rules and regulations. These guidelines are generally clear and specific, but require some judgment and interpretation in application.
Complexity: This position consists of a variety of technical labor tasks performed in/on City buildings.
Scope and Effect: The purpose of this position is to ensure that all maintenance work orders are completed throughout the City of East Point. Successful performance contributes to the efficient and effective maintenance of all City-owned buildings and grounds.
Personal Contacts: Contacts are typically with elected officials, co-workers, other City employees and the general public.
Purpose of Contacts: Contacts are typically to give and exchange information, resolve problems, negotiate or settle matters and provide services.
Physical Demands: This position requires physical exertion including the ability to lift objects weighing up to 50 pounds, stand, walk, sit, carry, pull, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, reach, handle, hear, speak and see.
Work Environment: This work is performed both indoors and outdoors, sometimes in extreme weather conditions, exposing the incumbent to extreme heights and moving mechanical parts.
