What are the responsibilities and job description for the Electric Superintendent (Internal Applicants Only) position at City of East Point?
· Coordinates, supervises and assists with activities involved in the construction, maintenance and repair of City electrical distribution lines and components; ensures that assigned personnel adhere to safety and other codes and regulations;
· Oversees the overall construction, maintenance, inspection, alteration and repair of electrical lines and equipment, including determining the type of construction, hardware and equipment to be used for each job;
· Serves as coordinator of new service line expansions by reviewing development plans to ensure compliance of contractors’ work to the City’s development regulations and to applicable construction codes;
· Procures necessary supplies and equipment for department;
· Organizes staff and project work schedules;
· Implements departmental budget and monitors expenditures on a regular basis;
· Handles citizen inquiries and customer complaints regarding service;
· Trains new employees;
· Works with Electrical Director and Engineer on final decisions regarding construction changes from project blueprints;
· Exercises general supervision over department and determines proper disciplinary action as necessary;
· Performs any and all other related duties as assigned by the Electrical Director.
· Performs cost estimates for new construction jobs and cost for damages to Electrical infrastructure for insurance claims.
Associate’s degree or two (2) years of related technical school coursework; Bachelor’s degree preferred; minimum of five (5) years of progressively responsible experience; Journeyman Electric Lineman Certification; possession of a valid Commercial Driver's License issued by the State of Georgia for the type of vehicle or equipment operated; equivalent combination of education and experience.
· Knowledge of the methods and practices involved in the construction, operation, maintenance and repair of electric utilities;
· Knowledge of the National Electrical Code, National Electric Safety Code, Electric Cities of Georgia Electric Line Specification Book and other codes related to the construction, maintenance and repair of electrical utility line systems;
· Knowledge of the operation of electrical substations;
· Skill in operating heavy equipment, bucket trucks, line trucks, and other equipment used in the maintenance and repair of electrical lines;
· Skill in troubleshooting electrical problems;
· Skill in the use of a computer and various electrical meters;
· Ability to interpret survey plats and engineering design plans on utility line construction projects;
· Ability to effectively coordinate, train and supervise subordinate personnel;
· Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with subordinate employees, other City staff and the general public.
Supervisory Controls: The Director of East Point Power assigns work in terms of overall objectives and priorities. The work is reviewed from an overall standpoint through conferences, reports and observation of activities. This position will be required to submit a daily projected work schedule and bi-weekly report of the Divisions to the Director of East Point Power.
Guidelines: Guidelines include the National Electrical Code, the National Electrical Safety Code, City codes, the Southern Building Code, Electric Cities Electric Line Specification Book, and the Electric Cities safety regulations. These guidelines require judgment, selection and interpretation in application.
Complexity: The work consists of varied technical and supervisory duties.
Scope and Effect: The purpose of this position is to plan, supervise and assist with the provision of citywide electrical services. Successful performance helps ensure the safe, efficient and reliable provision of electrical services to consumers.
Personal Contacts: Contacts are typically with developers, builders, other City employees, co-workers, engineer, and the general public.
Purpose of Contacts: Contacts are typically to give or exchange information, resolve problems, provide services, motivate personnel, and negotiate or settle matters.
Physical Demands: The work is typically performed with the employee sitting at a desk with intermittent standing, walking, bending, crouching or stooping. The employee must frequently lift light or heavy objects, climb ladders, use tools or equipment requiring a high degree of dexterity, and be able to distinguish between shades of color.
Work Environment: The work is performed in an office, a stockroom or warehouse, and outdoors, where the employee may be exposed to high voltage and occasional inclement weather. This position requires the use of protective devices such as gloves.
Supervisory and Management Responsibility: This position has direct supervision over all subordinate Electric Division employees.
