What are the responsibilities and job description for the Senior Water Maintenance Mechanic position at City of East Point?
This position is responsible for manual and supervision work, which involves light and heavy physical labor in the area of Water Treatment Plant equipment repairs, preventative maintenance and assist in repairs of mechanical, electrical and instrumentation equipment associated with the water treatment plant.
Must possess a valid State of Georgia Driver's license.
Guidelines: Guidelines include City and departmental policies and procedures, standard operating procedures and EPD regulations, state and federal laws, CMMS program and O & M manual.
Complexity: The work consists of a variety of administrative and technical duties related to replacing, repairing, and maintaining equipment in water filter plants.
Scope and Effect: The purpose of this position is to maintain water production facilities, storage tanks, pumping stations and related equipment.
Personal Contacts: Contacts are typically with co-workers, plant operators, electricians, distribution maintenance engineers, contractors and vendors.
Purpose of Contacts: Contacts are typically to give and exchange information, resolve problems and provide services.
Physical Demands: The work is typically performed with the employee sitting, standing, bending, crouching or stooping. The employee must occasionally lift light or heavy objects, climb ladders, enter confined spaces and use tools or equipment requiring a high degree of dexterity.
Work Environment: The employee is exposed to noise, dust, dirt, grease, machinery with moving parts, irritating chemicals, and occasional inclement weather. The work may require the use of protective devices such as gloves, masks, goggles and protective clothing.
Supervisory and Management Responsibility: None.
- Supervise, work with maintenance staff and assists vendors and contractors.
- Maintaining a clean work environment and adhering to industry (AWWA) regulation.
- Ability to assist in the development and implementation of a comprehensive preventive maintenance program.
- Perform a variety of manual work in connection with plant maintenance, pumping stations and storage tanks.
- May perform physical tasks such as lifting, pushing, handling boxes, flushing fire hydrants, operating fire hydrant hose and running errands.
- Communicate with supervisors to receive advice, instructions and directions.
- Assists with troubleshoots and repair electronic, mechanic and hydraulic systems and low and medium voltage electric systems; assists licensed electricians with high voltage electrical work.
- Monitoring the availability of parts and replenishing supplies.
- Provides 24 hour on-call emergency duty, troubleshoots and make minor repairs.
- Uses a variety of hand tools such as pipe-wrench, hammer, screwdrivers, and measuring tape etc.
- Assisting the mechanical maintenance supervisor with equipment, diagnostic, repairs, and issuing out assignments and other assigned duties.
Must possess a valid State of Georgia Driver's license.
- Knowledge of City departmental policies and procedures.
- Knowledge of water supply, treatment, distribution, facility operations and maintenance procedures.
- Knowledge of standard practices, materials, tools, hazards and safety practices of the mechanical trade.
- Skill in operating various tools.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, contractors and vendors.
