Located in Volusia County, the city benefits from its location near the Atlantic Ocean and Central Florida’s wealth of activities.The city manager is the chief administrative officer, reporting to city council and responsible for overseeing most city departments and staff. The ideal candidate will be approachable and solution-oriented, has leadership presence, and seeks creative solutions to problems. A calm, even-keeled demeanor would be appropriate for this position.The new manager will lead by example and have a well-rounded background. Superior communication skills are vital, both verbally and in writing. Taking the time to explain issues and solutions is important, but done in a way that everyone can understand.A solid foundation in finance and budgeting is helpful, with an emphasis on long-range planning and outcome-oriented decision making. This includes experience with negotiating public safety union contracts. Good administrative skills are also important, The best candidates will be excited to dig into day-to-day operations to help increase efficiency and effectiveness.Preference will be given to applicants with graduate or undergraduate degrees in public administration or a related field with five (5) years’ experience as a chief administrative officer. Being a credentialled manager is desirable, but not required. Experience with governance and board relationships, leading a community through rapid growth, and delivering quality capital projects are key to success in this position. Experience with water and wastewater utilities, stormwater management, and emergency management would be beneficial.
