About this Position
The Kennel Technician (part-time) assists the Animal Shelter Specialists with the daily care and welfare of animals in the shelter. They clean, organize, and maintain kennel areas; give animals food and water; assist the public; and assist with spay/neuter surgeries as needed. They must be able to work weekends and partial days on some holidays, as determined by the department and schedule.
Qualifications
- Up to 6 months of experience and/or training
- Or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Valid Oklahoma Driver's License and a driving record acceptable to the City's insurance carrier
Responsibilities
- Help care for, feed, water, clean, and groom shelter animals
- Clean, organize, and disinfect animal quarters
- Gather and record data about animals
- Prepare documentation and maintain files, entering into an online system
- Greet the public and respond to questions
- Prepare animals for adoption
- Assist with disposing of animals
- Clean the cooler and crematory
- Answer the phone and use walkie-talkies or a radio
Necessary Skills
- Flexibility and availability to work weekends and partial days on some holidays
- Ability to multitask
- Emotional capacity to dispose of deceased animals
- Ability to meet the required physical standards for this position
- Ability to pass extensive background process and pre-employment drug (drug only for seasonals), physical (only if CDL), and audio screenings
